New features:

Easily select ink in Word by drawing a shape around it

Do you like to mark up your documents using ink? Wish you could remove just a few inked comments? Now you can easily select an ink object embedded within text and remove it. The Lasso Select feature will automatically ignore text during the selection.

Save objects as pictures

Shapes, icons, pictures, oh my! Now you can save objects in Word and Excel quickly and easily through the right click menu.

Notable fixes:

We resolved an issue when deleting a comment near the end of a list of comments resulted in the pane scrolling to top.

We resolved an issue where the page tabs may appear too small and close together at 100% resolution.

  • We resolved an issue where border lines did not print as expected on A4 size paper.
  • We resolved an issue where an error would occur trying to refresh an XML query in which the URL to the data source was being truncated.
  • We resolved an issue when using VBA to add an image to the header/footer of a chart object on a worksheet.
  • We resolved an issue where the Workbook Statistics report incorrectly included macros from the personal macro workbook.
  • We resolved an issue when formatting a chart axis and the interval between labels was limited to 255.

PowerPoint

Notable fixes:

  • We resolved an issue in outline mode when you collapse all and then expand a section in the left pane. Some slide entries would not appear in the list.

Word

Redesigned Comments pane

The Comments pane opens by default if your document contains any comments and gives you a convenient place to work with them, whether you are viewing, responding, or resolving. Add a new comment by selecting text and using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+M. Use the Post button when you’re ready to share your feedback or the Cancel reply button when the feedback no longer applies.

Getting Started

  1. Open a Word document that already contains comments, or add one by selecting text and using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+M.
    • Notice that comments now appear to the right of your document in the Comments pane.
  2. Take the Comments pane for a test drive:
    • Click a comment to put it into focus and highlight the content in the document that it is referencing.
    • Reply to a comment.
    • Draw someone’s attention to a specific question you have for them by adding an @mention in a comment.

Known Issues

Some known issues to be aware of as you use the Comments pane:

  • Accessibility features, such as keyboard navigation and the screen reader experiences, are not yet complete; further changes to improve the experience for Comment users with disabilities will be rolling out soon.
  • Office Themes are not yet fully supported. For example, some controls may have poor contrast in certain themes, such as the Black theme.

New feature:

Drag email to a group you own

As a group owner, you can now share past conversations with the group. Drag and drop messages and conversations from your inbox into your group. Use Ctrl+Drag to leave a copy in your inbox.

Notable fixes:

  • We resolved an issue that caused email to be sent to the wrong recipient address.
  • We resolved an issue that caused Outlook to incorrectly allow users with “read” access to a mailbox to change the read/unread state of a message.
  • We resolved an issue related to security certificates and website access by adding additional logging to help diagnose the issue.

Excel

  • We resolved an issue with shortcut key (Alt+Ctrl + 7/8) and AZERTY keyboards that blocked the use of some characters like backslash (\).
