How to turn off NEON and transparency in Windows 10. Microsoft has been updating its Windows 10 apps for a while now. These updated apps now resembled something between MacOS and Windows 7’s Aero theme, with a glass-like transparency and blur effect applied to the sidebar and Windows of many in-box apps.

Not all users are a big fan of this, with some preferring the classic flat design of Windows 10.

Removing Transparency from Windows 10

  1. Open the settings app and navigate to Personalisation > Colours
  2. Locate the “Transparency effects” toggle and toggle it off. This turns off transparency for both the Start Menu and Action Center, in addition to the updated apps as well.
